About Us

The Fred Binns Parkinson’s Foundation raises money from the public, invests that money in a Fund, and uses the earnings and capital from the Fund to provide grants to a range of organisations involved in Parkinson’s Disease research or the provision of services to people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Helping develop a better future for those with Parkinson’s

There is very little targeted fundraising for Parkinson’s disease. For too long it has been the poor cousin in medical research funding with high profile diseases like cancer and heart disease attracting the majority of public interest and funding.

This is despite the fact that by age 60, 1 in every 100 Australians will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and by age 75, that percentage rises to 4 in every 100.

About Fred Binns

Fred Binns was a man who enjoyed every aspect of life, from sailing to race-car driving, and even driving his caravan.
Most importantly, Fred was a man who would do anything for his family, friends and what he believed in.

Fred had a great sense of humour and never failed to charm everyone he met. He was a loving husband to Di, his wife of almost 25 years, and enjoyed the company of his children, Nigel and Anneli, and his step-children Louise and Shona and their families. He was the much-loved Pa of his grandchildren, who sometimes struggled to understand the effects of Parkinson’s.
